In the linguistic tradition, it is said a palindrome is a word, or set of words, which reads exactly the same backwards as it does forward. So it is no overstatement to say that Destination Unknøwn's debut EP on Kuiper Noise would not crash out if one heard it from bottom to top. This says a lot about Nuno Bessa's production values, which pierce into the audible realm like a hypnotic piece taken from a live act extravaganza. Not that his music sounds hyperbolic -- not at all. It's masterfully subdued at points where lesser entities would have gone full tilt on the FX. And perhaps this is what makes this EP a great one, above all: its ability to find a sweet spot on the dial and rub it to the point of perdition. Thus, 'Theme 1', 'Theme 2' and 'Theme 3' won't make the headlines for their colorful titles. But they're certain to give you moments of endless joy as you come to the conclusion life works better on a metaphysical level. Also, with this release -- the 5th this year -- Kuiper Noise further reinforces its status as a force to behold in the myriad projections of the techno business today, with still more seriously grade-A material to come before year's end.
