It took a bad spell of unemployment for finnish beat operative Ülos Ovest to come out of the shadows and embrace techno production as a further measure of salvation. Of the man himself little is known. But guardians of the banger fundamentals might find his emergence - at a point when techno can sometimes be painfully serious - a sound reminder of how fun marathon clubbing really can be. With a direct line to effectivity and a knack for murderous drops, Ovest breaks into the dance music scene swinging in all directions, with this EP-turned-hammer named Inbound and Outgoing. First off with Bangapella, a blow to the head in musical form, which comes wrapped in a double package of dancefloor delight: the original version and a remix by label boss Holldën. And if the former is clearly the equivalent of a late night outburst in the face of old blood, with its devious bleeps and kick, the latter adds to the EP a further dimension of impending menace on top of its in-your-face anthics. As if this wasn't enough, Kinky Action resumes the mutiny in singular fashion, showcasing Ovest's talent for front row shoe sweeping. Finally, Trikoo, the closer track, offers a more broken take on the record's overall frenzy, which isn't to say finnish man Ülos is taking pity on you. Rather, he is asking the listener to put his money where his mouth is and acknowledge once and for all that privileges often come in fours. A mighty promising start for a modern techno bard - one that sounds like a musical vendetta against his former employers, whomever they were.
